Two days to the Moon 🌙

ree

The Mid-Autumn Festival, or the Moon Festival (to be more romantic), falls on October 1st this year. Nope, COVID is not gonna stop us from celebrating (discreetly, with hands washed before, during and after everything).

In Taiwan, it's that time of the year when you get to eat mooncakes for dessert, breakfast, and sometimes dinner, for about a week.

Filled with green bean paste, egg custard and a note for revolution in the Yuan Dynasty (yes, it actually said "revolt on the August 15th of the lunar month", pretty sneaky), mooncakes are an inseparable part of the holiday, symbilizing reunion with family (aww).

To ensure proper weight gain, it's topped off with BIY (Barbecue It Yourself) sets on sale all over the place.

But it's also when you chill under the moonlight, and talk over beer, pomelo, BBQ and maybe some more moon cakes.

For just once every year, we finally look up from our iPhones and Samsungs, and enjoy the full moon. So maybe we need this holiday more than it need us ;)
